Fall 2007 - Winter 2008 RV TRIP Index

PALM SPRINGS - CATHEDRAL CITY

DECEMBER 2007 - JANUARY 2008

We stayed in Cathedral City at the Palm Springs Oasis RV Resort again this year.  Last year we spent a month here and this year we stayed for two months.  Jerry & Kay were there for the same two months and Roger and Joann visited from time to time.  On the night shown above we commandeered the club house for our own Christmas 2007 celebration.

Highlights of our stay included dinners at our favorite restaurant and discovery of a couple others we liked.  David Ramseur and Susan Wibker invited us to a dinner party with Fran Ulmer and Bill Council.  Good conversation and company.

We enjoyed a picnic here on the shore of Lake Cahuilla near La Quinta a few miles south of Palm Springs.

In mid-December we flew to Juneau to celebrate the holidays early then flew back to Palm Springs in time for Christmas.

We attended the Palm Springs Follies for the second year on Karen's birthday.  It was as fun and exciting as last year with a new theme. And, of course, lots of time at the pool on sunny afternoons.

YUMA - AJO - TUCSON

FEBRUARY 1 - 8, 2008

In Yuma we stayed in an RV park with a nice pond and water fountains.  Long billed curlews like the one above were daily visitors along with a peacock that strutted up to the front bumper of our truck and fell in love with the image there.  There was a pair of black swans which have from Austrailia living at the park and they spent the days floating around the fountain in the pool.

AJO - ORGAN PIPE CACTUS NATIONAL MONUMENT

FEBRUARY 8 - 10, 2008

Central Town Square in Ajo, AZ. looks much like the square in Santa Fe except there are no people at the one in Ajo.  The local mine has shut down and all stores were closed both Saturday and Sunday.

This Finch is dining on a rare flower at the tip of an ocotillo cactus.  The flowers blossomed at our desert campsite after an all-day rain.

TUCSON

Tucson Rodeo Parade

The drum and bugle corps was part of the pre-parade entertainment. Each parade entry either rode on or was pulled by horses.  It's the longest un-motorized parade in the country.

Tucson Rodeo

Steer Wrestling

Long view down the rodeo grounds with Mountains in the background and a very large TV screen on the roof of the stands in the foreground.

From the look on his face, it appears that this steer was not enjoying the wrestling match.

Bronco Riding

Bull Riding

This high rider had fun for about 2 seconds.  After that the bull slammed him to the ground and proceeded to use him as a bowling ball.  The bull flipped the rider about 6 feet in the air where he bowled over one of the bullfighters.  The bull then picked up the rider again (left the bullfighter on the ground) and flung the rider about six feet, again nailing another of the "bullfighters."  The bull then made it clear that he would be happy to take on all comers by chasing the three bullfighters and a couple of horses and their riders around the ring for a while.

In this next photo, the rider is discussing future options with his career counselor.

This young rider managed to stay aboard his ride for a few seconds until the bull started twirling like a whirling dervish.  The rider was slammed into the metal bars of the ring where he held on so tight with hands and feet that he looked like a fly that just hit the windshield.  I was so amazed at seeing him stuck in the fence in a horizontal position and three feet off the ground that I didn't get a photo of it.
