Yellowstone National Park
Today was a day of superlatives so we'll list some below and try not to use too many in the text.
| WONDERFUL | AWESOME | OUTRAGEOUS | OUTSTANDING | FANTASTIC | SUPERB |
And Randy says "Wow what a day." We woke up to snow in the mountains and...
Cal Glover picked us up at the trailer at 7:30 this morning for a trip to fantasy land. Cal asked us all to look at the day's events through the eyes of our 11 year old selves. And we did. C.W. and Brenda Gee from Virginia joined us in the van and we all spent the day with wide eyed, awestruck looks on our faces. Cal has a great sense of humor and a sizeable repertoire of corny jokes. He's also a fountain of excellent information about the history, geology, politics, flora, and fauna in Yellowstone. Cal runs Callowishus Park Touring Company. If you want to spend a great day in Yellowstone, contact Cal at: http://www.callowishus.com/

We saw many of the critters that live in Yellowstone: Moose, Coyote, Elk, Bison, Mule Deer, Pronghorn Antelope, Osprey, Eagle, Trumpeter Swan, Canada Geese and chipmunks.

The aspens (not seen in this picture) were a brilliant golden-yellow and the undergrowth in the forests very colorful. Two mule deer stopped to say "hi." |
|
| We even had snow sometimes on the ground around us. | |
| This Elk was in the mating mood with his fine bellow of fall in Yellowstone. | |
| Old Faithful geyser put on its usual show but we got to see many other thermals that were as spectacular or more-so, paint pots, mud pots, hot springs, and fumaroles. | |
| And here came a bison to the Lodge just as we were leaving after eating bison chili, cutthroat trout, and many other delicacies. | |
| The falls, cascading waters, and canyons were awesome. Yellowstone was named after the deep canyon walls of yellow stone along part of the Yellowstone River--a canyon as spectacular as the Grand Canyon. That's Karen and Randy. You know Garrey and heights! | |

It's the last day of Randy's vacation here in Jackson Hole. This
morning we toured the National Wildlife Art Museum on the side of a hill a short
distance north of town. We enjoyed all the exhibits. Garrey enjoyed
the large Charles Russell and Frederic Remington exhibit on display.
Lunch at the Bunnery and shopping downtown and at Albertson's took up the afternoon. Karen needed some space from the from the Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum Brothers so she stayed in the Town Square browsing the shops and boutiques. She bought a nice Ansel Adams print of the Tetons and some home-made fudge. Garrey and Randy (aka Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum) enjoyed the hotel hot tub in the evening while Karen did the laundry.
